Small businesses, nonprofits, and organizations are the heart of the City of Duarte, shaping our community’s character and vitality. When Duarte needed a flower shop, this business “rose” to the occasion. This month, we are spotlighting a business that has truly helped Duarte “blossom” over the years: Cynthia’s Flowers & Gifts.

Cynthia’s Flowers & Gifts has been hand-delivering premium floral arrangements and gift baskets to help strengthen relationships, give love and support, and celebrate life’s special moments since July 4, 2000. Open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, Cynthia’s Flowers creates beautiful floral arrangements from birthdays to anniversaries to commemorating a loved one, and every little “just because” moment in between. 

“When I was younger, I loved flowers, and I was always creating arrangements just for fun,” said Cynthia Liamas. “When an old laundromat closed, the previous owner of the building suggested that it would be a nice place for someone to open a flower shop, and that gave my parents the idea. Although they had no experience whatsoever, my parents decided to open the shop 25 years ago and named it after me.” 

Cynthia’s Flowers & Gifts is run by Cynthia and her mom, along with a few staff members who have become like family over the years. They create the arrangements with meticulous care and make sure that they are perfect before they reach the customer’s hands. With free same-day delivery in the Duarte and Monrovia area, they are dedicated to helping their customers find the perfect flowers that allow nature’s beauty to inspire their special moments.

“All of our flowers are arranged as if they’re something that I would give my loved ones or purchase myself,” said Liamas. “If I don’t like how an arrangement comes out, I will redo it until I’m happy with it. We’re a luxury, not a necessity, so we want to make sure that if you’re going to spend your money on something extra, it should be something you’re completely satisfied with.”

Cynthia and her family have a long connection to Duarte. When the shop first opened, Cynthia commuted three hours every day to help her parents out. When she got married, one of her long-standing customers offered her an apartment for rent. Her daughter now goes to school in Duarte, and the shop frequently participates in City events.

“The first wedding we were hired for was 24 years ago and although the flowers were beautiful, it was a disaster since we were still just starting out. Despite that, the couple are still customers to this day,” said Liamas. “I’ve also arranged the flowers for another customer’s baby shower, first birthday, and most recently, her quinceanara. Duarte is our home, and after so many years, we’ve built many friendships, and customers have become like family.”
