At its October 28 regular meeting, the Duarte City Council proudly recognized Jason Golding for his remarkable 27 years of service and lasting contributions to the community through his work in the Community Development Department. A true homegrown talent, Jason’s career with Duarte began in 1998 and has spanned multiple roles, from Associate Planner to Senior Planner, culminating in a strong finish as Planning Manager. Jason’s professional journey is rooted in a strong educational foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly Pomona and a Master of Public Administration from Cal State Northridge.

Throughout his tenure, Jason’s impact on Duarte’s growth and character has been profound. His work has shaped some of the City’s most significant and transformative projects. As the lead planner for the City of Hope campus, Jason played a vital role in creating a welcoming and beautiful environment for patient care. He also served as the main planner for the Gold Line (now A Line) extension, helping integrate transit-oriented development into the City’s long-term vision.

Beyond these marquee projects, Jason’s fingerprints can be found across Duarte’s landscape, from initiatives like the Utility Box Art Program and the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to the City’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) policies and countless private developments. Known for his eye for design, detail, and his ability to communicate effectively with developers, architects, and residents, Jason ensured that projects in Duarte not only met standards but exceeded expectations. His attention to design quality helped elevate development citywide, turning good projects into great ones.

Beyond his technical expertise, Jason is remembered for his character, fairness, and dedication to community service.

“How do you replace 27 years of outstanding service?” Community Development Director, Craig Hensely, shared. “He truly cared about making Duarte a better place. But the most impressive and valuable thing about Jason is the quality of his character.”

His leadership and mentorship have left an enduring mark on his colleagues and on the City itself. Duarte’s commercial districts, neighborhoods, and public spaces reflect not only his professional excellence but also his profound care for the people who call Duarte home.
