The City of Duarte is informing residents that California American Water has initiated a comprehensive Leak Detection Project within the Duarte Water System. The project is part of an ongoing effort to improve water efficiency and reduce systemwide losses, and will take place from Monday, December 8, 2025 through Friday, January 9, 2026. To carry out this work, California American Water has contracted Consulting Engineering Inc. (CEI), a firm specializing in technical field services for water systems.
Work will take place during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday, from 7 AM to 5 PM. No work will occur on holidays. California American Water and CEI will make every effort to minimize disruptions for residents and businesses during this period. The City advises residents that field technicians will be present in the community as part of the planned leak detection process. The technicians will be equipped with headphones, pole microphones, sensors, and other tools designed to detect underground leaks that are not visible at the surface.
Leak detection plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability of the local water supply. Even small, non-visible leaks can accumulate over time, requiring the production of more water than is ultimately delivered to customers. Identifying and repairing these hidden leaks is considered an industry best practice for strengthening the sustainability and performance of water infrastructure.
