Beginning January 1, 2026, Duarte residents and businesses will see updated rates for Burrtec Waste Services following the City’s annual review of solid waste costs. For the most common residential service level, which includes one 90-gallon trash cart, one 60-gallon recycling cart, and one 60-gallon green waste cart, the monthly rate will increase by $1.28, changing from $38.51 to $39.79. Commercial customers with a standard 3-yard bin serviced once per week will see their monthly rate shift from $241.26 to $248.05.
The City’s contract with Burrtec calls for yearly rate evaluations to reflect changes in operational costs, inflation, and state requirements. A significant factor again this year is the continued implementation of Senate Bill 1383, which mandates expanded organics diversion and edible food recovery across California. Meeting these requirements requires additional processing, collection adjustments, and infrastructure upgrades that increase service costs statewide. For 2026, the cost to dispose of green waste is expected to rise from $132.81 to $138.78 per ton.
Despite these increased state-mandated costs, Duarte continues to maintain competitive pricing in the region. A refuse rate survey conducted in October 2025 found that Duarte’s residential rates remain among the lowest one-third of cities surveyed in the San Gabriel Valley.
Street sweeping services will also see modest rate changes beginning January 1. Residential street sweeping will increase from $2.33 to $2.39 per month, while commercial street sweeping will adjust from $4.49 to $4.63 per month.
Burrtec continues to provide Duarte with comprehensive solid waste, recycling, organics, and street sweeping services, as well as two annual community clean-up events that offer residents free opportunities to responsibly dispose of bulky items.
