The City of Duarte has announced an upcoming change to its mobile parking payment system for the designated 3 – 6 AM overnight parking areas only. This change does not apply citywide and does not create a citywide paid parking program.
The current provider, Flowbird, has joined Arrive, the global mobility company behind ParkMobile, a trusted mobile parking payment platform widely used across North America. As part of this consolidation, the Flowbird app will be gradually phased out and replaced by the ParkMobile app.
The transition is expected to be completed by June 30, 2026. During this period, the Flowbird app will remain operational until the migration to ParkMobile is finalized. While the mobile app will change, on-street parking operations and hardware will remain the same. After the transition, users will be required to use the ParkMobile app for all mobile parking payments. The City will provide advance notice and formally announce the official launch date of the ParkMobile system.
The ParkMobile app will offer several improvements, including:
-
Residents and visitors will be able to use the same app to pay for parking in hundreds of locations beyond Duarte, making it easier to travel without needing to download or manage multiple parking apps.
-
The upgraded platform is designed to provide faster load times and more consistent performance, helping users quickly start or extend parking sessions without delays or technical issues.
-
Enhanced mapping tools and clearer zone identification will help users select the correct parking location, reducing confusion and minimizing the risk of receiving a citation due to selecting the wrong zone.
-
A simplified payment process across multiple locations
-
A streamlined, user-friendly interface allows users to easily manage parking sessions, payment methods, and receipts in one place, creating a more convenient and consistent experience wherever they park.
Starting on the transition date, a $0.35 transaction fee will apply to each mobile parking payment made through the ParkMobile app. The city noted that this fee is set by the service provider as part of its standard pricing.
Residents do not need to take any immediate action, but residents can download the app in anticipation of the change if they are not already using it. Alternatively, instructions for downloading and using the ParkMobile app will be provided closer to the transition date.
