Commissions study and report to the City Council on any matter referred to it for such action by the City Council.

There are currently five commissions and one Mayor's Youth Council. The City establishes ad hoc committees as needed.

Members of the commission are appointed for terms of four years commencing on March 1 of odd-numbered years and terminating on February 28 of the fourth year thereafter. If vacancies occur, other than by expiration of term, they are filled by appointment for the unexpired portion of the term.

The commission elects a chairperson and vice-chairperson from among its appointed members for one-year terms.

In accordance with the new ordinance, Ordinance No. 923, the terms for current commissioners originally set to end o December 31, 2024, will be extended to February 28, 2025, and those originally scheduled to end on December 31, 2026, will be extended to February 28, 2027, to align with the updated term dates.
