The Duarte City Council approved the development of the Community Garden in February 2025. Since then, plans have been in motion to transform part of Tzeitel Paras-Caracci Park into a thriving, shared garden space. The garden will feature 20 individual plots and two ADA-accessible raised beds, available to rent for one year at a cost of $60. Each plot comes with access to garden tools, a sustainable drip irrigation system, and composting facilities.

The garden has been thoughtfully designed to remove existing turf and replace it with a more sustainable landscape that includes native plants, decomposed granite pathways, and shaded seating areas for gathering and reflection. Gardeners are encouraged to grow edible plants (excluding smokable varieties) and ornamental flowers for personal, non-commercial use.

The Duarte Community Garden is being developed in partnership with Food Exploration and Discovery (Food ED), a nonprofit organization dedicated to edible education and ecosystem stewardship. Food ED will lead the garden’s construction and manage its day-to-day operations through October 2026.

Food ED's team will provide support to both beginner and experienced gardeners, offer hands-on educational opportunities, and maintain the site’s infrastructure, irrigation, and overall health. Their mission is to help communities grow healthier, more sustainable futures, and we are proud to work with them on this project.
